As part of the GOC 3 UK Div visit 3 LSR RFC took on 27 Regt RLC at Dalton Barracks. The match was an excellent opportunity to show piece the development of rugby across the regiment. The game was fierce contest with 27 Regt winning the battle in the scrum while 3 LSR dominated in the lineouts. With the wind advantage in the first half 3 LSR kicked well and pushed 27 Regt back deep into their own 22. Good strong running from the 27 Regt backs managed to clear their lines and turn defence into attack and only resolute defence prevented an early score. With the dominating presence in the lineout 3 LSR pushed forward at every opportunity and created 2 tries in quick succession. Confidence started to flow through the 3 LSR team and at every opportunity the backs were trying their training park moves, the blindside winger coming off the fly half’s shoulder created space for yet another score before the half time whistle.
3 LSR rang the changes throughout the 2nd half emptying the bench and ensuring everyone got a runout. 27 Regt took advantage of the wind and some excellent kicking set up good field position for them to launch their pacey backline and successfully run in 2 tries. Both sides scored a further try before the ref blew the final whistle. 3 LSR 29 27 Regt 15, an excellent game played in the right spirit and appreciated by all those that watched.
3 LSR looks forward to the next round of the Community Cup to be played in Abingdon by 23 Nov 11.
