Saxons vs Infantry

This was the first attempt to play the Saxons in advance of the 1st XV. Having trained with the 1st XV on Tue morning the Saxons had about an hour in the afternoon before the forwards set off to Bath for a session with Lee Mears. Some excellent skills and drills were imparted to the forwards and it was hoped that these would be taken forward into the game against the Infantry.

The Infantry dug out blind to ensure comfortable changing facilities for both the Saxons and the 1st XV – 1 x 12 x 12 on the side of the pitch was the hospitability and changing rooms for both teams. The was played at a frantic pace and the Saxons forwards were soon on top, once again it was the frailty of the backline that was the downside of a spirited performance. Saxons player, Steve Pearce had been called up to the 1st XV and veteran Jase Lowe filled his boots in the engine room. The Saxons forwards dominated the lineouts and showed great presence when driving the ball forward, again Thorley stood out as the man of the Match, although the defensive tackling of John Armour kept in the frame.
