RLC ‘BRUCE’ 7s RUGBY COMPETITION – CORPS OPEN DAY SATURDAY 8 JUL 2017

Bruce 7s - The ‘Bruce 7s’ is the annual RLC inter-unit RFU 7s tournament and will be held during Corps Open Day in Deepcut on Sat 8 Jul 17. The event will be played in both the Bunting arena and the Main arena throughout the Open Day and comprises group matches followed by a knockout final.

Veterans- This year will also see the introduction of a standalone Veterans 7s match to be played for the vaunted Eassie Shield.

Army 7s - The 2016 Bruce 7s winners were LS Sqn, Cdo Log Regt RM which qualified them to participate in the 2017 Army 7s competition.  LS Sqn ceded their place to 27 Regt RLC who will participate in the Army 7s instead.  Of note, RLC RUFC are entering several Open 7s competitions during summer 2017 and the Bruce 7s tournament will assist in selecting the Corps Squad.

The competition is open to all Regular and Reserve RLC units and entry is free.  Units are invited to complete and return the entry form to the RLC RUFC Secretary NLT 9 Jun 17.

Tournament Conduct

Format-  Games shall be played in accordance with the Laws of the International Rugby Football Board as promulgated by the Rugby Football Union.  Pool games will be played first and the score line at full time will result in appropriate points being awarded to each team .  The winning Pool teams will go through to a knockout phase which will select the finalists.  If a knock out game is tied at full-time, then 5 mins one-way of extra time will be played with the first score deciding the result.  If the scores remain tied after extra time then a best of five drop-goal competition from the 22m line will determine the winner.

Outline Timings- The timings for the day are flexible and will depend on the number of participating units.  However, indicative timings are as follows:

 Team captains brief 0830hrs.

 First game to kick off at 0900hrs. 

 Final to kick off at 1400hrs.

 Conclusion of the tournament, including presentations, at approximately 1430 hrs.

Presentations- The RLC RUFC Treasurer is requested to prepare the following presentations which will be conducted in front of the RLC gazebo in the following order:

Match officials will receive an individual memento (x4).

The “Player of the Tournament”  will receive an individual tankard.

Bruce 7s winners (up to 10 players) will each receive an individual memento.

The winning team captain will receive the Bruce 7s trophy.

The Eassie Shield Vets winners (up to 10 players) will each receive an individual memento.
