RLC Festival of Rugby 2018

The RLC Festival of Rugby 2018 is to be held in the Duke of Gloucester Bks, South Cerney on Wed 2 May 18.  This event is the culmination of Corps rugby for the season and the ideal opportunity for those involved to congregate, play, spectate and celebrate.  It also provides the perfect environment to reward the deserving.  This instruction is an open invitation to all members of the Corps who have an interest in rugby union.

Sir Cecil Smith Cup.  Presidentís XV v Chairmanís XV, selected from a combination of Veterans, Saxons and unit players who attend Ė 80 min game, KO 1230hrs.
Briggs Trophy Final. KO 1430hrs. Teams TBC.

Matches shall be played in accordance with the Laws of the International Rugby Football Board as promulgated by the Rugby Football Union.  If a game is tied at full-time, then 5 minutes each-way of extra time will be played with the first score deciding the result.  If the scores remain tied after extra time then a sudden-death drop-goal competition from the 22m line will determine the winner.

The Presidentís XV and Chairmanís XV teams (Sir Cecil Smith Cup) may utilise as many replacements as necessary (the aim is inclusivity). 

The following personnel are responsible for promulgating separate player calling notices and managing teams on the day:

The Vets Manager (Presidentís XV) is to collate attendance from the Vets community and the Seconds Manager (Chairmanís XV) is to collate attendance from the Saxons community, to provide a player base from which two evenly balanced teams can contest the Sir Cecil Smith Cup.

Insurance for each fixture is provided by that already held by the RLC RUFC.  However, anyone planning to participate should ensure that they are annotated as playing on their own unit Part One Orders.

The ARURS senior appointer is requested to provide a suitably qualified team of three for each game.  All officials are invited to attend the evening function.

The RLC RUFC Team Manager is requested to provide the RLC RUFC gazebo, which is to be co-located with the Briggs trailer to facilitate pitch-side presentations and VIP hosting.  The RLC RUFC Secretary is requested to provide the following to be presented pitch-side upon completion of each cup competition:

The winning team (Presidentís XV v Chairmanís XV) will receive the Sir Cecil Smith Cup.
The winning team in the Briggs Shield Final will receive the Briggs Shield.

There will be a pitch-side BBQ for all from 1300-1430hrs.  The evening function (Hawaiian shirts strongly encouraged) will be conducted in the 29 Regt Sports Bar club after prize giving.  There will be food and a cash bar. 

11. Awards Ceremony.  29 Regt, 55 Sqn SQMS is to provide a 6ft table and Corps flag for the Awards Ceremony in the Centurion Bar.  Recipients of Corps Colours will be informed of their selection.  The following awards will be presented :

 a. Corps Colours.

 b. Player of the Year (The Gareth Davies Trophy)  .

 c. Most Improved Player (The Chris Christopher Cup).

 d. Players Player (The Ed Newman Trophy).

 e. Female Player of the Year (The Charlie Lloyd Memorial Trophy). 

 f. Veteran of the Year (The Tinders Trophy).

12. The timings for the day are as follows:

 a. 0930hrs - RLC RUFC Committee Meeting - TBC

b. 1230hrs - Presidentís XV v Chairmanís XV (Sir Cecil Smith Cup)

c. 1300hrs - Pitch-side BBQ lunch.

d. 1430hrs Ė Briggs Final

e. 1615hrs - Match related prize giving.

f. 1730hrs - Evening Function in Centurion Bar.

g. 1800hrs - Awards Ceremony.

h. 1900hrs Ė Curry Supper.

i. 2359hrs Ė Bar closes.
