After 2 days training ‘H’ hour was soon upon the CorpsSaxons to play RAF Brize Norton.

The game KO with a minute silence for the ‘legend’ tha twas Jonah Lomu, the famous NZ who sadly passed away.

With the wind and the rain pounding the pitch, conditions would prove to be difficult for both teams; however, the first 20mins was in favour of the Saxons.  The forwards, led by the team Captain,  ‘Oscar Todd’proved to be too much for the opposition and once the ball was shipped out to the backs, the Saxons run some glitzy lines followed up by quick support.

RAF Brize Norton proved that their defence was well drilled keeping the Saxons attack at arms length.  8 mins away from the first half saw LCplTauli (right wing) receive a yellow card for a high tackle.  Whilst down to 14 men the Saxons also produced the goods in defence stopping a bombardment of attacks from the opposition, after a minor infringement the RAF were awarded a penalty which resulted in the opposition leading by 3 points.

The start of the second half showed that both teams where keen impress, with LCpl Tauli now back on the field of play the team really showed true grit and determination pushing [] hard and keeping the opposition well in their 22, however, after a wild clearance kick and with the aid of the wind the RAF pushed the Saxons back to their 22.  With this in mind the RAF pulled out all the stops and kept the Saxons defending their try line for over 10mins.  The RAF was award a scrum 5 mtrs out and a couple of quick phases saw the RAF drive the ball over the line for 5 points.

Still with the heads in the game and a self belief that the game was still there to be won the Saxons continued and dug deep to keep on the front foot.  A short spell of defence saw another ‘sin bin’ but this time it was the team captain ‘Oscar Todd’, with 6 mins left the captaincy was handed over to Stevie Roberts and down to 14 men the RAFs defence proved too much for the Saxons to get any points on the board……..the match ended Saxons 0 RAF BZN 8.
